Presenting CAPTOR: School-workshop and Information desk in Hartberg

Last Friday the  Austrian CAPTOR Team was touring in the testbed region of Hartberg. On a bright sunny spring day they visited locations, where they will hang up RAPTORS in June.  The RAPTORS will be near the school in the middle of town and on the main square in front of the city hall.

Two school classes from NMS Gerlitz joind a CAPTOR school workshop to learn about ozone pollution and the ways to measure ozone. “We were surprised, how much the young teenagers already know about air pollution and possible actions to prevent it.” (Sibylle Egger, Global2000).

Julian is explaining, how a CAPTOR is built (see picture at the right). The kid has already heard of “Raspberry Pi” and knew, that one can  build several devices with it. Building an air measuring station was a new thing for the whole class.

One pupil from each class was nominated as “scientist of the future”. They received a CAPTOR T-Shirt for outstanding participation during the workshop (see picture at the left).

In the afternoon the CAPTOR project was presented at an information desk in the city centre of Hartberg. The major Marcus Martschitsch and Anton Schuller (regional environmental manager of Hartberg) came visit as well as journalists from the local press (see picture at the right).
